Page 11 of 17 Elided Rhymes Elision, also known as elided rhymes are word pairs where the words would be a perfect rhyme, except that one of the two words has a final vowel sound that the other does not (e.g., vivid/lived). Elision, in other words, is the process of compressing a syllable by removing the vowel sound. Rhymesaurus elision feature works in both directions. Provide a word with multiple consonant sounds in the final syllable (e.g., "picked") and Rhymesaurus will show you the words with a vowel sound between those two consonant sounds (e.g., "wicket"). Provide a word the contains single consonant sound at the end (e.g., "rocket"), and Rhymesaurus will list the words with the same two final consonant sounds but without the final vowel sound (e.g., "shocked").
